For security reasons, the Soprintendenza of Rome established that the Colosseum may accommodate up to 3.000 people at once. To respect this rule, the access to the site can be subjected to delays. The Colosseum is a sensitive target, subject to security checks at the entrance, waiting in line might be necessary for security reasons at the metal detector.
On the 1st Sunday of each month the Colosseum is free and the entrance can't be reserved.
Open every day from 8:30 to one hour before sunset.
Closed on January 1, May 1 and December 25. The ticket office closes one hour before the museum closes.
No exchange, refund or cancellation of tickets is allowed.

For groups greater than 13 people, you need to use the special booking procedure reserved for groups (with dedicated entrance times and reduced prices).
HOW TO CHOOSE THE CORRECT TICKET
Reduced price tickets (just for European Union citizens)
- Between the ages of 18 and 25 (the person has to be under the age of 25. If the person is 25 or older a full price ticket is required)
- School teachers (must have a document or ID that identifies them as teacher employed as a full time teacher - not valid for university teachers).
